Where the jobs are

Architects, designers and education workers are in hot demand, new figures show.

The Sydney Morning Herald recently mined data from online jobs listing company SEEK to uncover the best sources of jobs now and for the near future.

The newspaper found that architecture, education and design offered the greatest job prospects, with government and defence also showing a large increase in advertised positions.

Growth in these sectors was attributed to the continuing strength of the property market and a boost in foreign student numbers with the fall in the Australian dollar.

But parents shouldn’t despair if their child has no inclination for these fields. Recruitment is strong across the spectrum.

While the big gains were seen in these sectors, an increase in job ads was recorded for all industries last year with the exception of insurance and superannuation.

Overall, job ads increased by 15% in NSW during 2015, according to SEEK’s Employment Index.
